To start off, ideally you aren’t just reaching for likes on your page, but reach. While likes can absolutely factor into the success a page sees, reach has become a far more important way to measure the success of your page. As you increase reach, you can turn those numbers into a like acquisition campaign. But starting out, there are a few key ways you can really make your page work to your advantage.

  1. Get close to dark posts

Facebook dark posts are the number one tool you have at your disposal right now: use them. Essentially they allow you to post to your page without it showing in the general feed, thus allowing you to target new communities and people who haven’t even liked your page yet. You can read a bunch of articles on them, but in the end, just get on Facebook and play around with them, use them, check them out. There is no substitute for just getting in there and figuring it out for yourself.

  1. Use Facebook ads as much as you can

Do not miss out on Facebook ads. A lot of people ask me if Facebook is worth it any more since it’s now become more of a pay to play game. My response is always 100% yes. Facebook is sitting on an enormous amount of targetable data. They have tutorials and easy step by step guides that you can navigate if it’s your first. Get into the ads manager and learn how to use it. Even a $20 ad spend on the platform can take you very far.

  1. Look at your audience insights

You 100% need to be looking at your audience insights for your page, which is located at the top in your dashboard area. They will teach you so much about who you are reaching and who is your customer. From there you can evaluate if the content you are putting out is resonating with the right people. Keep a close eye on that area as you test new kinds of posts, as it will fluctuate and change.

  1. Upload videos natively

Currently, Facebook is favoring a video that is uploaded directly rather than linking out. Why? Because they are pushing their own video product ahead of everyone else’s. Facebook doesn’t want anyone leaving their website for any reason; they especially don’t want you peacing out to head over to YouTube to watch a video. So if you upload your video instead of linking out, they will reward you for that and give it crazy reach in feed. Seriously. Try it out for yourself. Make one post where you post a link to YouTube, and then another where you upload the video with no linking out. One will do remarkably better than the other, trust me. Then, do the right thing, and upload natively for the rest of your life.

  1. Don’t give up on organic posts; just reassess

So, Facebook is now pay to play. Nothing is free forever, and it was just a matter of time before they started charging. Because of that, people ask me if they should stop posting organically altogether, and my answer is: it depends. You need to take a step back and look at how much money goes into each piece of content, how much time, and then how many people you’re reaching with that single piece. If one piece of content gets you 5 views but 3 clients that will pay you 10k each, and you spent 5k on that piece of content, well, 5 views ain’t bad, right? But look at it for your business specifically. Nothing is ever dead till it straight up doesn’t exist any more.
